Information for your SWAT program.
SWAT students
provide valuable technical and training support for their school, saving
thousands of dollars that would otherwise be spent to hire technical staff.
Students
in SWAT programs are more than capable of providing substantial technical
assistance in their schools because the needs fit their immediate environment
and their state learning benchmarks across the curriculum. These students
perform very rewarding and potentially lucrative hands-on training and
work creating an atmosphere of collaboration, confidence building and
sense of worth. It saves teachers time, schools money, and builds student
leadership potential. Their contributions supporting technology initiatives
generate a sense of pride in their school and community.

Ten Quick
and Easy Ways to Raise Money For SWAT
1. PTA sponsorship.
2. Local bank sponsorship of SWAT Teams.
3. Donations from other local businesses with interests in technology.
4. Community benefactor sponsorships or gifts in kind.
5. Write an educational grant (see SWAT CD for samples of grants)
6. Research all the service clubs in town and review their giving policies.
Many service clubs have formal giving guidelines for large grants in excess
of $2,000 but have smaller amounts available for specific small projects.
7. Outright donations of equipment, office supplies, consumables, t-shirts,
etc.
8. Parental donations, especially if they work for or own corporations
with matching gift programs.
9. Ask someone to donate $50 a month for a year. Ask four people to donate
$10 a month for a year. Ask nine people to donate $5 a month for a year.
SWAT Team members can send reminders.
10. Hold a bake sale, book sale, or garage sale to raise funds. As a special
thank you to your contributors, encourage your SWAT Students to produce
a CD or website with examples of their work on the SWAT Team. Give the
portfolio of accomplishments and efforts to your contributors. Your contributors
will feel their support has a measurable and tangible effect on the community.
They might even donate more!
