About Lucy
Lucy was nationally recognized for SWAT (Students Working To Advance Technology) project of which Technology and Learning Magazine and Microsoft named her the 1997 National Technology Teacher of the Year for founding this concept. The SWAT Program provides a structured environment for students to develop Digital Literacy skills. She continues to provide mentoring support to the National SWAT Outreach and SWAT Leadership Teams.
From 2005-2008 Lucy worked part time at the Singapore American School, and provided private tutoring services to local Singaporean Students while directing the SWAT program from her home office in Singapore. She was also a featured writer for the Singapore Society of Reading and Literacy and a Feature Writer for Reading Plus Magazine. She is now back in the USA Directing the SWAT program, building partnerships, developing content, and is recently taken a position with Brunswick County Public Schools, NC as a Curriculum Specialist. She is also an online instructor for Learn NC teaching her course titled, The Connected Writer: Using Blogs and Collaborative Tools to Enhance Student Writing.
Lucy recently completed writing a book for Learning Express titled, Teaching with Technology, Strategies for Today's Learner.
Lucy worked with Classroom Connect for the New Mexico Laptop Project and Kershaw County, SC where she coached teachers on Technology Integration at Sierra Middle School in Las Cruces, New Mexico and North Central High School Camden, SC.
Lucy was a National Teacher Trainer and Educational Consultant for LeapFrog SchoolHouse. She traveled the southeast to train teachers on LeapFrog School house products. She was also a private tutor to children with special needs in her home community of Apex, North Carolina.
Lucy was the Manager of Community at bigchalk.com. Her job included integrating bigchalk.com online resources, research, consultant for portal design, marketing presentations for conferences, and leader for student channel information.
Lucy was the Education Program Development Director at KOZ, inc. where she provided leadership to an online community of thousands of schools using KOZ's Community Publishing program. She facilitated forums for professional teacher growth in technology education through SchoolLife.net and provided numerous staff development programs.
Lucy has over 25 years of classroom experience in special education and elementary education and has taught at private and public schools in Rhode Island, Idaho, New York, Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Singapore. In addition to her classroom experiences, Lucy has served as the National Leadership Recruitment Director for the 21st Century Teachers Network and was an Educator-on-Loan for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction with the Teachers Connect on-line professional collaboration project.
Lucy was honored in the Rhode Island College Hall of Fame, and also received the Individual Award for Education by the North Carolina Educational Technology Association. She has published articles and was awarded several educational grants.
She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in General and Special Education from Rhode Island College and a Masters Degree in Special Education from Idaho State University. She has also completed advanced studies toward certification in Educational Administration from Virginia Polytechnic and State University.
